Specifications for the Dammann V2 Bass
(note: you can see large versions of the images below - just click on them)

Our Vertical Basses are the only instruments we build. They are built for bass players by a bass player.

The bodies of our beautiful basses are available in mahogany, walnut, and cherry in various shades and stains. Our basses start with a design driven by the player's needs but this ergonomic design provides a platform for a stunning piece of sculpture.

Our instruments are made individually at our shop in Charlottesville, VA. We spend about forty hours on each of our instruments. Hours of sawing, carving, grinding, and sanding go into shaping and preparing the surfaces.

Our bodies are made out of four inch thick blocks of walnut, cherry, or mahogany which are cut into shape and then cut into pieces to be reassembled around a maple, thru-body neck.

In order to bring out the character and color of these fine woods three coats of stain, one coat of vinyl sealer, and eight coats of nitrocellulose lacquer are applied. After every third coat the finish is hand rubbed. The eight hour finishing process is completed by a final rubbing and buffing to produce the deep luster which distinguishes our instruments.

The necks are maple with ebony fingerboards, originally made by Carvin, customized by DCB. Our scale is 34 inches and our 24 frets are jumbo medium. The necks are thru the body for maximum sustain.

We build fretted and fretless instruments and build four, five, and six string models. Our tuning heads are made by Gotoh.

As far as wiring and electronics go we use what we call our hybrid wiring which features an ABM piezo bridge and a pickup usually by Bartolini or ABM in make. The piezo bridge and magnetic pickup each have separate pre-amplifiers in the bass.

This wiring has active treble and bass pots, a master volume and a blend pot to mix the two signals into a mono cord. This circuit is designed and made by Jake Joseph. It simplifies some of the more complicated stereo wirings we used in the past. The Lightwave Systems which we previously used are still available and yield a beautiful and unique sound. We also custom make instruments setting whatever pickups a buyer might want with or without active electronics.

All of our electronic components are connected with quick connects which snap apart for ease in repair in case this ever becomes necessary. We are able to exchange any part rather than dealing with the whole bass for speed in getting the instrument back up and running.

All our instruments come with a padded gig bag. A hard shipping case to go around this gig bag is also available as an extra.
