The
most remarkable thing about our design is the shape!
(note: you can see large versions of the images
below - just click on them)
We
have designed our vertical bass to hang almost upright.
Notice that the left hand is comfortably able to reach across the face
of the neck and the thumb of the left hand functions as a pivot behind
the neck.
This
left hand position is a principle of classical guitar and double bass
technique. It radically expands the player's ability to get around on
the neck once the player is familiar with the hand position.
Playing
the six string bass in our vertical design becomes a more easily mastered
proposition because you can comfortably reach the low strings across the
face of a wide fingerboard when your thumb is behind the neck.
The right hand also benefits from this innovative design. Notice that
the arm position is naturally straightened and that the wrist is unbent.
No more carpal tunnel syndrome. Notice that the armrest presents the right
hand over the strings.

All previous styles of playing are easily adaptable to the vertical bass
but additional styles grow out of the possibilities that this design affords.
Chording, cross picking with the fingers, or banjo styles are possible.
Many variations of tapping and percussive techniques are simple when
your wrist is supported by the sculpted arm rest. Strong accents can be
achieved when the wrist is used with back swing.
Our
basses start with a design driven by the player's needs but this ergonomic
design provides a platform for a stunning piece of sculpture. Our instruments
are unique and they can only be fully appreciated in the hands of a discerning
professional like yourself. As a serious musician you set out to make
art. Why not make art on a piece of art?
Because our instruments are so custom, we strongly encourage you to visit
one of our outlets and check out our different models. You might find
just the right bass in our showroom but if not, we will make one to your
specifications.
